Ahmed Abdelhamid Ahmed

Product Design / Development
Industrial design, CAD and prototyping

14+ years in SOLIDWORKS. I design parts and assemblies that can be made: valves, injection-moulded plastic parts, expansion joints and machine parts, documented with production, assembly and BOM drawings. In my own workshop I take solid-wood furniture from 3D model to finished piece.

Water hammer valve for emergency showers

Research, development and construction of a new valve for emergency shower systems. The valve reduces water hammer in the supply line and works as a shock absorber.

What I did

  • Researched the water hammer problem in emergency shower installations.
  • Developed the valve concept and built the complete assembly model in SOLIDWORKS.
  • Produced exploded views, section views and technical drawings for every part.

Multi-component injection-moulded handles

New handles for laboratory fittings, including QC quick-connect regulator handles and Waldner-Uniflex handles, taken from concept through prototypes to production.

Requirements

  1. New colour-coding system for laboratory fittings according to EN 13792.
  2. New handle for a key-account customer.
  3. Reduce the cost of the handle.
  4. Fit the customer’s current handle production.
  5. Reduce material use.

What I did

  • Designed the multi-component colour-coding part with mould construction and assembly in mind.
  • Ran plastic flow analysis on the handle (see Sheet 04).
  • Built and tested prototypes and compared them with the old design.

Metallic expansion joints and sheet-metal expander

Designed metallic expansion joints for petroleum, gas and fluid applications to EN 14917 and EJMA.

I also assisted in designing a sheet-metal expander that adapts standard bellows to non-standard flanges, so standard parts can replace costly custom-made bellows.

From the drawings

  • Expander table built from radial plate sections, with the outside radius modified for nominal sizes DN 400–DN 1400 (16–56 in).
  • Hydraulic drive: cylinder, piston, inner rings and cylinder flange.
  • Main assembly approximately 830 kg; full exploded assembly drawing with parts list.

Also

  • Static calculations to validate design integrity.
  • Installation manuals for assembly and setup.

Documentation

Drawing packages for production, assembly, service and sales. At Broen-Lab I also set up a new drawing template for emergency shower customer drawings.

Employer title blocks are withheld on these drawings.

Furniture, built with the same process

In my own workshop I take solid-wood furniture from 3D model and drawings through templates and prototypes to finished pieces. More at woodendream.dk.

Sheet 06 / 08Wooden Dream Studio · Chair

Mona

A chair handcrafted from Brazilian oak, with a sculptural frame, satin finish and a seat with high-density foam and soft upholstery.

Design process

  • 3D model of the frame and seat in SOLIDWORKS.
  • Dimension drawing of the side frame.
  • Cut plan nesting arms and legs on Brazilian oak boards, with polycarbonate templates.
  • Cut-out drawing for the upper armrest.
  • Prototype built and checked before the final piece.
Sheet 07 / 08Wooden Dream Studio · Coffee table

Strøm

A coffee table in solid oak with a hand-poured dark resin river, natural live edges and custom geometric steel legs.

Process

  • Selected and prepared live-edge oak slabs.
  • Set the slabs in a casting mould and poured the resin river.
  • Drew the geometric leg frame and fitted the finished top.
Sheet 08 / 08Wooden Dream Studio · Table

Nordic Rift

A table in solid European walnut with a black epoxy river and steel legs.

Process

  • Selected live-edge walnut slabs.
  • Poured the black epoxy river between the slabs in a casting mould.
  • Finished the top and mounted it on steel legs.

How I work

Technical detail matters, and so does the way a project is organised. I bring a hands-on approach, personal ownership and the practical perspective of running my own design studio.

  1. 01 / Personal approach

    Ownership and problem-solving

I take responsibility for moving an idea forward, from early questions to detailed design and practical work. I enjoy solving problems and learning what a project needs.

  2. 02 / Management & organisation

    Planning and follow-through

Running Wooden Dream Studio means balancing design, workshop tasks and day-to-day business needs. I organise priorities, materials, costs and documentation to keep the work moving.

  3. 03 / Working with people

    Listening and clear communication

I listen to requirements and make ideas easier to discuss through drawings, models and practical explanations. My work connects the customer's needs with the details of making a product.

About

Product design and development

I combine product design and development with hands-on making and the organisation and responsibility of running my own studio.

I have designed valves, moulded plastic parts and handles for laboratory and emergency-shower products at Broen-Lab, and metallic expansion joints and a sheet-metal expander at LBH International. Since 2021 I have run Wooden Dream Studio, where I design and build solid-wood furniture.

Alongside CAD and workshop work, I handle customer communication, purchasing and the practical organisation of the business. This gives me a broader view of a project: how it is designed, how it is made and what it takes to deliver it.

Interests: design, woodworking, travel, reading and photography.
